(Note: Since posting this blog, local residents have informed me that the house is actually located in Seymour, so the title of this post has been adjusted accordingly. Please refrain from posting directions or an address.)
I was a bit surprised to find out that the town I live in, Derby, CT, was once the setting for an episode of the Discovery Channel‘s A Haunting. The episode, titled “Hell House”, told the story of the Beckwith family who supposedly began seeing ghosts and other strange phenomena shortly after moving to a new home. Local ghost hunters Ed & Lorraine Warren were called in to help along with other “paranormal investigators”, and an exorcism was performed.
I particularly enjoyed the line: “Today, in the historic towns of Seymour and Derby, the legions of dead beneath the land far outnumber the living.” Spooky…
Haha.. that thought is very creepy! And I’m pretty sure I saw that episode. Ive recently become obsessed with ghost shows.. the Warrens visited Ernie’s farm a while back and bought some things from his Mom and Dad.
Hey Sean,
Just to let everyone know, there are numerous ghost info sights that label Irving, Lincoln and the High School as haunted places, specifically in the High School, the art room areas, which are totally creepy, which shows that we have been in the presence of ghosts all along.
is this based on the movie coming out too?

No, that’s actually a different place. I believe it’s in Southington. You can find the episode floating around on YouTube.
Update your damn site

This home is NOT in Derby it is in Seymour, I know this because I used to reside there. Please get your facts straight before besmirching my former home…oh and by the way?? if and when you see the “Beckwith’s” tell them I appreciate the trashy mess they left behind.
that must have been creepy know that a demon is in your own houes
Hello Sean,
This house was actually my families house. This was a crazy place. My Team (PARAA) recently did a lecture in Derby about it. If you go to our site you can see some pics from the house. If you have any questions, shoot me an email.

if theres any place that is hauted please let me know so we can investigate it
What I know about this house is that it was for sale in 2010, it said by owner, but now it looks like it was just abandoned, grass is all over grown, nothing is being done about this house at all. This house should be destroyed, TOO many bad things happen it in. If the person on here that says his family use to own it then should buy it back and do something with it. Talked with too many people that have witnessed very bad things!!
btw, this house is in Seymour, VERY old farm house that really is charming but NO WAY would ever want to live in it. Just driving by it its very eerie!! Even the real estate people had too many problems thats why they don’t even want anything to do with it. I only live 5 mins from it and if I don’t have to drive by it I DONT!
I just watch the “Hell House” on Kuwait TV KTV2.
Even Muslims believe in this and they are against it.
This house is still currently for sale by owner. The sign was stuck in the ground by the mailbox but due to storms of late, it’s now outside the house in one of the front windows. I drive by this house every day on my way to work.
I currently rent in Ansonia and want to buy an older house and fix it up. I dont beleive in any of this crap. Can anyone supply an address?
I was confused when I saw this episode tonight (3/25/11) on the Green Earth Channel (or something like that). Yes, it starts out mentioning Seymour, but later on they visited their “local town hall” and it showed a picture of the Derby Town Hall. That lead me to believe the house was actually in Derby and the mention of Seymour was just incidental. Also, they visited a cemetery roughly 10 minutes away from the house. That cemetery is, in fact, in Derby. I have actually visited it.
Now, it’s entirely possible that the house is right near the border in the small area where Seymour actually borders Derby. After all, Seymour was part of Derby until 1642.
I know exactly where it is….i used to stay there u know how Jennifer said she was on the phone with twi if her friends….one was me…it really ALL happened and SERIOUSLY MORE….it is bad and then the house was put back on the market…RIGHT NOW….they had all those notes and its not made up…..
The front part of the house is in Seymour and the back part is in Derby divided after he lived there…..
Kevin we could i wont give u the direct address, but it is there and something cud be done to show u that it is true…it hasnt happened to u obviously…..
NO sh*t idiot….now it is not back in the 1800’s it was Derby…i hope u get it…HAPPY LIVING..my mother forbidded us from there bc of it….
The house siding caught on fire while they were looking at it with the realtor and even one realtor died….they had there grandmas boyfriend go look at it to fix it n give n estimate….he DIED OF A MASSIVE HEARTATTACK on his way home his pace maker shut off….EXPLAIN THAT…
Back in the 1800’s the house was an old Colonial Tavern on the downstairs floor….and the upstairs “George” would rent the rooms out upstairs and that is why the rooms upstairs r seriously infested…this is serious and you know i wouldn’t have believed it unless i did not encounter it myself….that house is scary and not a joke….is the pool still green all the time???
This house continues to be empty and is still for sale. Listing price is unbelievably cheap. Wonder why?
Drove to the house yesterday after finally knowing its location. A little creeped out only knowing of its history. House is still vacant. Does anyone know who actually owns the property and is the house still having paranormal activity with ghost or demons?
This seems to follow The Conjouring. Anyone else agree?
The Warren’s got rid of the demon but remember at the end of the show they said they still have activity going on
lol
